CBSE Admission Age Criteria and the 2027-28 Timeline

Age decides more school admissions in Bangalore than marks or interviews do. A child born a week after a school’s cut-off waits a full year, whatever else is in their favour. This guide sets out the age rule for each entry class at AECS Magnolia Maaruti for 2027-28, how to count your child’s age against it, and what to do month by month between now and the start of the year.

The age rule, by entry class

Each entry class has a fixed birth-date cut-off for 2027-28. A child must have reached the age below on or before 31 May 2027.

• Pre-KG: born on or before 31 May 2024 (3 years)
• LKG: born on or before 31 May 2023 (4 years)
• UKG: born on or before 31 May 2022 (5 years)
• Grade 1: born on or before 31 May 2021 (6 years)

Admission to Grades 2 to 9 and Grade 11 does not run on a single age cut-off. It is based on the child’s previous class records and the seats available in that grade.

How to count your child’s age against the cut-off

Use your child’s date of birth, not their age today. Check it against 31 May 2027, the date the school counts from.

• A child born on 31 May 2024 is eligible for Pre-KG. A child born on 1 June 2024 is not, and waits for 2028-29.
• If your child’s birthday falls in the first week of June, they are on the wrong side of the line by days. There is no rounding, so plan for the later year.
• If you are unsure which grade your child fits, call the admissions team with the date of birth and they will place it.

If your child misses the cut-off by weeks

This is the hardest case for parents, and the answer is usually the same across CBSE schools: the cut-off holds. A child who misses Pre-KG by a fortnight does not start early; they start the following year, a year older than the youngest in the class.

That is not a setback. The older child in an early-years classroom is often the steadier one. What does not work is pushing for an exception, because the age rule is set by the board’s framework, not by the individual school.

The 2027-28 timeline, month by month

Admission season runs from late in the year through the first months of 2027. A rough order to work to:

• November to December 2026: shortlist two or three schools within a sensible drive, and book campus visits. Entry-grade seats, Pre-KG and LKG, fill first.
• Now: applications open for 2027-28. Submit early rather than waiting for a deadline.
• On submission: hand in the form with the documents, then attend the short interaction.
• Seat confirmation: confirm the seat with the fee payment once offered.

Seats are limited and are confirmed in the order they are completed, so an early, complete application is worth more than a strong one submitted late.

Keep the documents ready

Having these in hand before you apply saves a scramble later:

• Birth certificate (photocopy), which also proves the age
• Previous class report card or transfer certificate, for Grade 1 and above
• Aadhaar of the child and both parents (photocopy)
• Four passport-size photographs of the child, two of each parent
• Caste or community certificate, if applicable

The school does not ask for medical or immunisation records at the time of admission.
