India Book of Records: Maximum Pookalams Created at a Single Venue
On 25 August 2026, students and staff of AECS Magnolia Maaruti Public School, Bengaluru, created and displayed 193 pookalams at a single venue. The India Book of Records confirmed the achievement on 1 September 2026 in the category Maximum Pookalams Created at a Single Venue. The school describes the event as a celebration of Onam that showcased creativity, teamwork, unity and India's rich cultural heritage.
The category counts pookalams made at one venue, so the figure of 193 reflects how many separate designs were created together rather than the size of a single design. The video above was published on the AECS Magnolia Maaruti YouTube channel and runs for 3 minutes 51 seconds.

The school credits the entire AECS family, including students, teachers and staff, for the collective dedication and enthusiasm behind the achievement.
What Is a Pookalam?
A pookalam is a floral carpet made on the ground with fresh flower petals. The name joins the Malayalam words for flower, poo, and pattern, kalam. It is closely linked with Onam, the harvest festival of Kerala, when homes lay a pookalam at the entrance to welcome the festival. During the ten days of Onam leading up to Thiruvonam, a family pookalam traditionally grows larger each day as new rings of flowers are added.
Designs are usually circular and spread outward from a central point in rings of different colours. Marigold and other seasonal flowers supply the colour. A pookalam is rarely a solo effort: one person marks the outline, others fill the rings with petals, and the finished pattern reflects the work of everyone involved. That shared effort is why pookalam making works so well as a school activity.
Celebrating Onam and Culture at AECS Magnolia Maaruti
AECS Magnolia Maaruti Public School is a CBSE school in Bengaluru. Building pookalams together gives students a hands-on way to learn about regional culture, plan as a team and work towards a shared goal. The school's own account of the record names creativity, teamwork and unity as the themes of the day.
